Title: What was it again?

 ;D Seeing that at long last I found mineral oil I want to try that finish of mineral oil and BLO. What where the quantities again? I think it was 50-50 but want to be sure/

David, In my formula it's not mineral oil. It's 50/50 boiled linseed oil and mineral spirits.

I have used mineral oil with good success. I don't mix or cut it with anything I just use it 100%.
It is a good "food safe" finish when it dries. Just don't drink it unless you are having internal problems.  ;D

Thanks guys so I got my wires tangled. Now to see if me can find mineral spirits. Must say like the finish of the mineral oil on the cheeseboard.

David, Mineral spirits is deodorized paint thinner, So if you can't find mineral spirits, paint thinner will work. It will just smell bad longer.

Butcher Block mineral oil is one of my favorites. It fills in like Danish Oil natural but has two advantages for me. First, Danish Oil has a lasting odor [my wife can smell] and Mineral Oil leaves my baltic birch ply a more natural "white" color compared to a slight yellow-brown color with Danish Oil.

guess you have lot's of it for all your paint, in dutch it's called "terpetijn" ;)
i think it should work with "wasbenzine" as well but never tried that myself.

wasbenzine is anders. Terpentijn is correct. Maar David, aarzel Mineral oil niet met lijnolie!

I'm using mineral oil too. Just tip the wood in there, don't drown in! let it leak off the excess and wipe dry.
Afterwards let them dry. I put them on the heating now, works really nice.

I sometimes replace the "terpentine" with "wasbenzine" when i spray or paintbrush with normal paint.
with "wasbenzine" it will dry quicker. the guy in the paint shop told me this.
but as i said, didn't tried it with BLO.


and like you said, mineral oil is great as well.

I just discovered some new information.......
Mineral oil never dries! Therefore you can not put another finish on top of it. It is good for cutting / cheese boards and other things used for food that won't have any other finish and it looks good on most woods but, if you think that you could put polyurethane or shellac on top for a harder or shinier finish, it won't work very well.
I did not know that as I've never tried anything like that but, I needed to give a "heads up" to all of you scrollers that like a gloss finish on your work.
