Title: Getting close to retirement
Post by: chief on November 25, 2011, 04:00:58 pm
I havent been on here much lately because I am almost retired from the Navy after 20 years.  I have been busy making my shadow box to display my awards in.

I have had one interview with a private company that paints ships and I am waiting for a call from the Navy Shipyard for an interview.  This job hunting sucks.  I thought it would be a little easier up here with all the shipyard contractors to get a job.  Hopefully I will get the call next week for the Navy Shipyard job and start after the first of the year.

I hope the best for you!

Don't hold back your army experience too much, I have noticed that companies are more interested in that than expected.

Chief how about EXXON or other companies like them. i have a friend that just retired from EXXON.he said they used to hire a lot of people right out of the Navy. the only thing he was home 30 days & gone 30 days. good pay, good retirement & all the overtime you want when at sea.

termite I am done going to sea.  The oil industry is unstable job market.  You can make 6 figures for 3 years straight and then get layed off over night with no warning at all.  If I cant find a job up here in WA for the shipyard I will probably go back to TX and owrk in the oil industry though.  The pay is really good and the cost of living is cheaper in TX.
I know things will work out one way or another, god has a plan for us all it just might not be a plan we like.

Short timer,   ;D
The plan may not be what you expect either but rest assured, it will work out in the end!
My wife's youngest son is in the process of moving from Rock Springs WY, to East Texas, just left here yesterday with a truck load out of storage. He suffered a years worth there and is looking forward to a warmer climate.
He's a TECH on the Fracking (real word no joke) crew, that's where they pump a special slurry down wells to improve the flow of oil or gas by fracturing the strata and forcing it apart then leaving a special mix of fluids and sand to hold it apart, the fluids flow out leaving the sand in place. The hours are killer at times 20 per shift for days on end. Make an old man of you pretty quick especially fighting sub zero temps and near gale wind to boot.
After 20 years of hurry up and wait, you will make out. Patience my A$$ I'm going to kill something! Said one vulture to the other.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.
Hang in there my friend,
Gabby
