Title: My first commisioned portrait
Post by: BigPete on November 21, 2011, 03:38:20 am
This is my first commisioned portrait ! the original photo was not the best but it was the only one they had of there late father so i had to improvise a little, the customer loved it  :)
still relatively new to scrollwork i found making the pattern the hard bit !
Maybe some of you more seasoned pattern makers can give me some tips ? ;)

Nicely done! Curious as to the rate you charged them as I can never quite come up with something reasonable... :)

Thanks for all the nice comments  ;D

EdwardW i am also new to this so i am still finding my feet regarding price.
I am from Scotland and as this was for a friend i charged them ?70 GBP and they were delighted but i am thinking on raising this for future projects as i am thinking of framing them as well , as i say i am new to all this so trying different ideas as i go along
what part of the world are you from ?

Peter,

USA, specifically from Colorado..Thanks for the pricing input. It is always hard to figure out a good rate (especially for friends) but your work looks great so I see a great future for you there in Scotland!

Great job Peter, ?70 quid  :o I wish they paid that sort of money over here, I charge ?25 for a single subject then add a tenner on per subject, the sort of money you can get could earn you a living, have you tried stack cutting them, there are always other members of the family that would like one once they have seen it and it only cost you for the price of wood........Paul

Peter, I think you did a fantastic job. Coming from someone who can't do that (yet) I'm impressed at your first portrait effort. I hope when I start doing portraits, mine comes out that good.
