What's your "in the shop" rituals? Mine whether I am turning or scrolling is always to have Bob Dylan playing, and a mountain dew on standbye. With my soothing tunes cranked and my caffeine fix, I am ready to create a masterpiece.. these two elements are essential for my focus LOL..
-
I listen to books on tape or the Ipod. Just can't cut without listening to a book.
-
Classic rock and a cold one.
-
A Diet Pepsi and either the TV on or listening to music on my iPod. If there is a football game or a NASCAR race it's the TV. Because I have my dust collector running when I am scrolling, I use wireless headphones attached to the TV so I can hear whats going on.
-
I need cool air ) today it was hot and I just couldn't get into sawing. I did hook up a refrigerator today, that's a start on coolness. I will fill it with cold milk and cold cokes. And I need my silly talk radio.
-
Hot days, radio on and a bottle of water next to me. Cold days, radio on and a cup of coffee or two next to me.

Nothing just concentrate on what I am doing, but I make up for it at the end of my working day

If I'm not Old Rock-n-Roll it's a Ball Game .............
-
Radio has to be on - at least to be reminded of what time it is.
Clothes need to be changed before entering the shop.
Beer - sometimes. Most times I forget about it while working along :-\
-
Turn on the lights, heat, radio (Old rock&roll) and pray... Then I grab water, apron, and whatever else I need.. simple..... Sheila
-
IPod with oldies. In the summer, a large glass of sweet tea; in the winter I turn the heater on in the shop about 1/2 an hour before I sit down to scroll.
And never forget the safety glasses.

TV is usually on in the shop, but it's mostly background noise. Sometimes I'll listen to the local sports station on the radio. Don't listen to music as much as I used to, except for this time of year when I'll listen pretty much exclusively to Christmas music.
One other ritual I have is kind of a tribute to my Dad. Dad worked in construction all his life and as a teenager, I worked with him a lot. When I was 16, Mom got us each a leather nail apron for Christmas. When he passed away, I asked my Mom if I could have his. It was well worn, patched and repaired a number of times, but he wore it almost daily for over 25 years. It's hanging in my shop today, right next to the door. As I pass by, on my way in & out of the shop, I will often reach up and grasp it for a moment and just think of Dad. First few times I did that, I couldn't hold back tears. Now, 8 years later, it's easier and usually brings a smile to my face.
By the way, I still have my old nail apron as well. I don't use it much anymore, but it hangs right next to Dad's on the wall of my shop.

I thought I was the only one that listens to Dylan

new ritual:
Check if saw is set to square angle ::)
I have cut 3 puzzle yesterday evening. When I started to cut the pieces I figured out that my saw was tilt like 1?. Luckily I could work it out to have the animals stand straight...
-
Well, after I turn the lights on ;D I walk over and flip the 6 plug thing and turn on another light and the radio! If nothing is good on the radio I sometimes use my iPhone. Then have to decide which way I wanna go that day!
-
No rituals for me.
The sawing itself is ritual enough

I like most music but find I myself listening to long hair classical 98% most of the time. The music relaxes me while my coffee picks me up. I could scroll 'til the wee hours of the night. Brian

I really don't have any quirks or rituals. It depends on my mood if I listen to the radio, CD's, (country music) watch Cable TV or DVD's with surround sound. Surf the internet sometimes and post. If it's hot I run the AC, cold I turn on the heat. In the afternoon I sometimes have a few brewskis. Oh and yes there is saw dust being made. LOL 8)
-
Ritual, what ritual, the saw is too loud to listen to music, it's too dusty to bring my $300.00 IPod in there, if I bring in a beer, coffee, softdrink I forget about it until I am finished, the shed is too far from the house to run cable for a TV. and I don't dear turn my back to the door as guaranteed someone will come in and goose me. and I don't like THAT. Damm, I still jump when a blade breaks. I always light the stove when I first go in, I guess that is my ritual ;D Have a great weekend everyone, and while you scroll let the sawdust pile up , enjoy whatever it is that turns your crank :P
-
Firstly switch the radio on, then switch the heater on , then switch everything else on my mind off and scroll away till my hearts content ! Bliss ;)

Well I'm sort of out of the loop now that winter is setting in, what I wouldn't give for an 8 by 10 like Bill's! When I'm able I have my radio tuned to the only Country and Western station KRWQ that reaches my hidden valley, light up the lights turn on the fan to blow the dust away, pop a top on a Pepsi and get with the program on whatever project I have going at the moment. This past summer they were playing some good tunes and I really enjoyed that! I couldn't tell you who was singing what since I don't keep track of the singers like I used to.
Yesterday we had our first taste of winter with a dusting of snow around dusk but it quit and is all melted off now. Man I hate snow!
Stay warm folks I envy you your snug shops.

Find a way to set up a bell or something that they have to ring coming through the door or turn your set up around so you can see. If you bashed those goosers a couple of times they wouldn't think it was so funny. IT ISN'T!!!! >:( >:(

well after i put on my old cloths (my dog knows when i change she always comes with me) we stop to check the chickens and look for eggs ( she always gets one thats her treat) then we go inthe shop turn on the heat have a coffee and a few smokes on hand turn on the radio and start cutting, my dog lays by the door so nobody comes in without me knowing
-
Well I go in the garage, turn on the heater, make sure all the lights are working, put on my safety glasses, put on my head cover (have to keep the dust and crap out of that CI processor), get my holes drilled and start the saw and enjoy listening to the interesting sounds of motor humm, blade interacting with the various areas of the wood ( they do sound different now), and hope no one opens the damn garage door and lets all my warm air out....
We all listen to different symphonies, don't we!
Happy Thanksgiving to all my scrolling friends!

Personally the first thing I do is plug in my IPOD and choose from a number of playlists, all country of course. Most of the year I can leave the doors open with a fan running. When it is too hot I have a window banger A/C hanging in the window. When it is too cold (not often here) I plug in a pair of industrial halogen lights which boosts both the temperature and the light levels. My shop is 10 by 17 so it doesn't take much heating or cooling to make a difference. I go in when I need a drink. No where safe to put a glass out there, and it would gather sawdust or shavings anyway.

Diver Bill the Snake catcher, I knew there was a reason I liked you, anyone who loves Country Music can't be all bad!
Get you one of those travel mugs with a lid to keep the dust and flies out of your beverage, most are insulated too so it'll stay hot / cold longer. Keep it out of reach so you have to take a short break now and then, good time to get the kinks out, then back at it. ;D

Good idea Gabby. I use one commuting to Tampa every morning for coffee. BTW I caught a nice 5 1/2 foot diamondback a couple of weeks ago if I didn't already brag about it!
-
I'll bet you could make a few bucks extra making belts from their hides, but you just turn them loose again don't you?
Talk about job security! LMBO ;D

Yes, I take them out where hardly anybody goes on base and release them. Let them keep eating rats. I hate rats. I have killed rats in ways you don't want to know about. Very few people are injured in the US by snakebites, but rats spread disease rampantly and cause a tremendous number of housefires also from chewing electrical lines.

I like having the radio on and it's usually tuned to a talk radio station. Coffee in the morning and sometimes a diet soft drink in the afternoon. As of late I am having to turn my kerosene jet heater on here in western Pa..
