Hi, my name is Andrew. My dad and older brother have always had the ability of just looking at something and then building it; I am not graced with such abilities. I need plans and patterns and workshops seminars. When we move into our new place my wife got me a $99 gift card from Lowes. I saw a scroll saw magazine and I thought I could do that and then I bought my Delta Scrollsaw.
That was four years ago. I've done wall plaques, signs, boxes, photographs in wood, intarsia and now I'm making wooden toys. I really love Steve Good's site; I've learned a lot from it. I like challenges and new crafts which is another reason I like this site; there's always something new and exciting to make.
My small shop has grown with different tools and lots and lots of wood. My wife sometimes says I like collecting wood more than I like using it. It's tough to find good and inexpensive wood. I've actually caught myself wondering if certain projects are worthy enough to use my wood.
People keep telling me that I should sell my crafts; but if I did that, it would then be like a job and I already have one of those. Scrolling and craft making takes me away from my job, it's my hobby...besides I enjoy giving my crafts away.

Welcome aboard, a proper reverence for fine wood is a good thing. Much if not all of it sprouted a long time before we were born. Some even before Christ.

Welcome Andrew, I'm Mike from California. Scrolling is an enjoyable craft. I like yourself do not want to make a job of it as I am retired and enjoy woodworking I have been doing it for 63 years. Got addicted to woodworking in High School where I took a 6 week course. I do sell a piece now and then but most of the time I give my work away. I make lots of toys for children that are confined in the Hospital.
