now, normally I learn quickly as how to solve a problem--Today I was down in my shop trying to see why my ex21 bottom clamps would not hold the blade--I had read that the set screw and the knob should meet in the middle of the clamp--So here I am, all but standing on my head trying to see where everything was hitting and still not being able to, when my wife come up and says " why don't you just take off those 4 bolts and lift off that plate thingy off" sudden light on the subject--took off the table so that I could see what I was doing. As I was putting the table back on, the wife said" told ya" and went back up stairs--It will be a while before she forgets--Richard aka thumbs :-\ :-\ :-\

sometimes it just takes someone with a different point of view to see what should be obvious.
Our usual response is- Duh why didn't I think of that!

So did centering the set screw work??? In case you don't know, There is a little anvil in the center of the set screw and the thumb screw that is replaceable. When mine just won't hold a blade well anymore, I replace it. I always keep a couple of new sets around. If you cut with the same size blades most of the time and then try to cut with a different sized blade, the wear pattern on those anvils are minutely worn and have a tough time holding much larger or smaller blade.

That kind of thing happens to me all the time Thummy! Thank goodness for another pair of loving eyes. Sometimes we just don't visualize things the same way somebody else does. Countless times I've stuggle with a design or concept and my wife will take one look at it and say "Why don't you just turn it THIS WAY! DOH!!! It's because she's spent many years sewing and when you're working with patterns some of the same principles apply.

Yes, it worked Julie--Both the set screw and the knob are fairly new and I am having no problem with the clamps--Now for the smirk on my wife's face, well that's a totally different story-Richard

OH I am so there Rich The wife has a (Imaganary) Big book when she is right and when I am right she has to dig out the little book she keeps loseing it because its so small of when I am right. I never live anything down with her. Her mind is like a steel trap.... I tell you though Us men we always look for the harder way to do things, I will be doing something getting Mad because I can't figure it out in she walks and says why don't you just take that thingy there and do that with it. Thats about the time when I want to chunk it and she is right and I hate it..... lol
