Title: Gift Card Holders
Post by: dgman on July 26, 2011, 10:18:28 am
Has anyone out there made any of these?: http://www.stevedgood.com/giftcardholder.pdf. I'm thinking of using hardwoods instead of plywood. Any opinions?

Good idea Dan...BUT no BASEBALL motif!

What are you thinking as to type of wood? !/8" Oak, Maple, etc.?

Hi dgman. I have made quite a few of them. I have always used 1/8 bb. I think hardwoods would cool, but I always have warping problems with the thinner hardwoods.

I wonder how they would hold up to the airlines and TSA if used as Luggage Tags?

This goes around in my head since this afternoon.
The basic idea can be used for multiple thinks, it's one of these simple but useful ones. I'm thinking of business cards, postcards, letters, invitations, etc. All the things you like to have covered in some way.
Things that might be given to other people, things that might be given as a present. Things that need a special "envelope".
How about making it to a tiny box?

How about some closure:
- A leather strip with a magnet?
- some velcro?
- or would a rubber band be enough and more "natural"?

for the price: if set up as a gift card holder I would also go with a 19$ for 2 or even better a 5$/1 12$/3 . I think that works better. People usually need more than one gift card holder.

Howdy Dan////AND EVERYONE////....  I made many of the Gift Certificate Holders back yonder and they sold real well.  Maybe I was wrong, but I asked $5.00 and sold a dozen.  ((((No gift card included))))  LOL  It was in November and of course close to CHRISTMAS, so thats probably why.  Anyway.
     I made mine out of a THINNER wood that I bought from Hobby Lobby.  Was a touch thinner than the 1/8" BB.  Looked better being THINNER.  Steve has many different patterns for the front/back of each.  Anyway....  Danny  :+}

Dan, you could try to double up some veneer to get some really thin wood. Also are veneers available up to nearly 1/8" thick. I have some 2mm(1/16") apple tree veneer in stock.

There are also some of these I a issue of creative woodworks and crafts. I think it was last years holiday issue. It's by Diana Thompson. I have been thinking of making some of these for a booth I have in a store!
