Steve,
What would help me is a video lesson on cutting smooth curves, such as your wobble bowl, and the transition from straight line to curve.

Is the curve really more complicated? I find straight lines more complicated.
You should try to hold the wood from the top just with the fingertips. turn it around really smooth, make it a constant movement.
It helps when the table is really slick. Most scroller's are using some wax from time to time to give it this extra slick surface so the wood can glide on that.

Cut up a bunch of scrap wood, it will be when you're done ;D and practice, practice, until you can follow the line without going too far off. That's the only way you will learn. Watching someone else only goes so far.

Use the fingers or finger of one hand to make a pivot near the blade and guide with the other hand a little practice will have you cutting great sweeping curves in no time, avoid side pressure on the blade it take time and practice but is great once you have mastered it.
