Well yes and no. The advantage of the sanding mop is after you break it in it conforms to the contours of the piece you are sanding. The Sanding stars don't conform like the mops do. If you have a drill press or a lathe, I would recommend a 4x6 mop in two grits. I have a 120 grit and a 220 grit. They are great for finish sanding intarsia pieces and any piece that has contours. They can be used in a drill press, but I use them on my lathe.

thanks for that dg , it clears allot up for me. So if i get the following i will have a sanding mop, just attach to a drill press?
1/2" MOTOR ARBOR FOR SANDMOP $ 7.95
1X4 180 GRIT GOLD SAND MOP REFILL 48PK $19.95
So i get the above ill have a sanding mop? cheers

Since you are sanding miniature furniture, yes, that should work. In my earlier reply I said I had 4x6 mops, in fact they are 2x6. But for what you need them for, the 1x4 should work OK. You do have to put it together, the directions are easy. After you have assembled it, break it in by sanding a scrap board on it to loosen it up.

thats great , you helped allot mate, think ill go with the 2x6, ill let you know how things go

I gotta spend more time here - I'm learning that you sand with brown paper bags and mops! Now i know why my work never comes out the way i want it to!
