I have a question for the Canuckles on here....
Seeing as the most recommended source for good ply (Sloan's Woodshop) does not ship to Canada where are folks buying their decent scrolling wood from?
I can get some thin timber boards locally (mostly pine, poplar, oak, mahogany, teak etc. at 3/8" and 1/2" thick) but the only ply I can find in 1/8", 1/4" and 3/8" thicknesses is the nasty stuff with a thin veneer on the outside and pressed sawdust in the core.
Somebody in Canada must stock the good stuff surely!

when you find a good supplier let me know.

Where are you located in Canada? I am here in Nova Scotia and I know of a couple of good places near Halifax and Dartmouth. I can give you the links if you want. But I don't know how much they charge to ship. I usually make the three hour trip there a couple of times a year and pick the stuff in person. Let me know if you want me to post the link and you can give them a try. I just hope it doesn't cost too much. :)

I'm in SW Ontario. Actually about as far south as you can go without falling off as I am in Canada's most southern town....lol.
Links would be good. At least I can use them as a comparison then and no doubt people in the Maritimes would find them useful too.

Sure, here you go . . . The first one is http://www.halifaxspecialtyhardwoods.com/ for Halifax Specialty Hardwoods.
The other one we go to is East Coast Hardwoods, but they don't have a site. They may deliver though so you can call them. The link to their information is http://www.yellowpages.ca/bus/Nova-Scotia/Dartmouth/East-Coast-Specialty-Hardwoods-Ltd/547711.html (http://www.yellowpages.ca/bus/Nova-Scotia/Dartmouth/East-Coast-Specialty-Hardwoods-Ltd/547711.html)
Let me know how you do with them. :)

Shelia, I finally visited Halifax Specialty Hardwoods yesterday for the first time and let me tell you, phew I think that I would still be there if I didn't have to work today. My, my, my... The wood in there is beautiful. My wife thinks that it's the happiest that $100 has ever made me, haha...
Larry good luck with the wood...

A guy I know lives in BC about 20 miles from the border. He has a address that he can send stuff to in a town over the border so he gets it there. Hope that gives you ideas.

Thanks for that link. It looks like they have some very nice stock. I have bookmarked and will get their price list.

I live on the Avalon Peninsula, east coast of Newfoundland, about as far away from BC as you can get in Canada. I buy my 1" stock at Kent in St John's they have a great assortment maybe 10-15 different types of exotic hardwoods. Also we have Provincial Hardwoods in St John's. I don't know the numbers but if you Google it I am sure you will get contact info.
