Title: Delta, Dewalt
Post by: beginner on April 02, 2011, 12:34:47 pm
Could someone tell me the difference between the delta 20" and the dewalt 20".  other than price.  Looking at the pictures they seem very similar.
Thanks
beginner/Jim

They are the same.  Dewalt was purchased by Delta.

Who woulda thunk that Black&Decker owns Dewalt, Porter Cable, Delta and others making it the world's largest tool maker.

A lot has happened over the years, but in 1992 Black and Decker bought the Dewalt line of tools.  These tools were designed for professional use on  jobsites. Dewalt has a great reputation and has well established itself in the heavy duty tool market.  In 2004 Black and Decker made another important purchase by acquiring Pentair?s tool group which includes Porter Cable, Delta and a couple of other brand names.

For some reason they decided to move the scroll saw line of tools from Dewalt to Delta. They are really the same saw they just changed the colors and name. ;)

Right now, the DeWalt should be a few dollars cheaper as they are being discontinued. When I was in St Louis a month ago visiting my brother we went to a Woodcraft store that had both saws sitting side by side. Looking them over very carefully, the only difference we could see was the color and the name on the side. The DeWalt was marked down $20.00 or so cheaper for obvious reasons. As far as parts in the future, just order Delta parts and install on your discontinued DeWalt.....Same-same.  ;D

Correct me if I'm wrong, they are all made in China.
I hope I am.

Dewalt will still be made. I was told that at the Show in Tampa 2 weeks ago. Delta has been sold to a different co. It is public but not final yet. Dewalt is planning on making the Yellow saw...

Not to be picky, but the DeWalt I purchased was made in Taiwan.

Hi Denny, I may be mistaken, and if I am someone feel free to correct me. But I seem to remember the full name of Taiwan is ROC Republic of China, free China as apposed to Red China. I know there is a difference, but it really doesn't matter, these are products that were originally produced here in the states. I still object to our jobs going over seas.
I'll drop the subject now as it is way off topic for a forum of this kind.

Hey Gabby, not to be disrespectful, But the DeWalt scroll saw was never made in the U.S.A. The 788 type I was made in Canada!
