Title: Joining Mahogany panels
Post by: malc on March 30, 2011, 05:26:54 am
Hi all, been away from the saw for a few weeks due to other commitments, but I'm back. I want to make  a jewellery box from 1/4 inch mahogany but the only panels i can get are 4 inches wide so I need to join two together. Bearing in mind that the panel will have extensive fretwork cut into it what kind of glue would you use.

Hi Malc,
I use Evostic weatherproof wood glue for most jobs involving wood,quick drying ,dries clear and the wood will break before the joint.

Malc, Any good wood glue will do the trick. For panel glue ups I use Titebond II.

I caught that "Freudian Slip" too, Bill!

Wondered if it was a spelling error or a true "Freudian Slip" resulting from early morning 'activity'
at the DG household!!!

~~~GB~~~
GOTCHA! Dan!!!
Dan went back and fixed it, so no one will know what we're talking about.   :)
Sorry Malc, I make one mistake and all hell breaks loose! It took a couple of re-reads to figure what Bill, GB and Russ were smirking about, but I fixed it!
OK, so I use Titebond II.
I agree with you Russ, I'm guilty of it too, I just don't want to upset  our Female members, not to mention the original poster Malc.
I would not recommend gorilla glue, cleanup is a pain, the stuff foams up and oozes all over hades.
If you get it on your clothes it's permanent, from personal experience!
Strong stuff though.
Dan, Haven't you figured out yet that we are not easily offended?  I used to tell the guys I worked with that, at my age, sexual harassment was not reported, but graded.
Well Julie, Like I said, It was a mistake and I didn't want to offend!
I feel bad for Malc. He asked a good question, and I thought I gave him a good answer.
if you want more area to glue try this. cut a 1/8" deep by 1" wide groove in each piece. glue
together. will still have 1/4" thick wood with a little squeeze out, scrape before it gets to hard
see if this will work
