I thought it would be fun to see everyones very first project.
Mine was this owl cut from a Lora Irish pattern several years ago.

How about yours?

Hey Dave, Sorry but I don't have a picture of it. It was an eagle That I cut about 12 or 13 years ago!
-
Mine was this clock I made over 30 years ago. Had to put in a new movement and a fresh coat of ploy last year. 8)

Mine was this Hummer Segmentation Picture 8" x 10"
-
This was my first try several years (7or8) ago. It is a pattern that was in a scroll saw magazine at the time. I cut it out of 3/4" plywood and I painted 1/4" backer board red, and blue in the right places. The saw was my first one which was a $100.00 Tradesman from Ace Hardware.
It is now owned by family friend and hangs next to the front door of his home.

Don't have pictures, but first project was a letter holder (mail) that had a couple heart cutouts and one overlay on front, with some very simple curves on the side. If I remember right, it took me quite a while to get the hearts right, but then again, I didn't have a place like this to get advice on the right techniques!
-
I think mine was the coyote and cactus from a Spielman book 10 years ago. Been hooked ever since. Bobby
-
I sure can't remember either , but I didn't start taking pictures of my projects until a couple of years ago ............ :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(
-
My very first project was done on the Dremel and from balsa wood since it was all I could find, that is until I started other projects. LOL. These are what I called Scroll Saw bears. Do not remember where I got the pattern, but it was very simple. I made ornaments and of course gave many away.
-
Hey Cherie those are cute/neat, might have to try to duplicate them. LOL.

I have the pattern, unfortunately I made the body parts into templates on Masonite and traced onto the wood. That was before I knew what I was doing. LOL
-
Sorry I do not have a pic either, but it was a simple rabbit pattern.

Got my first saw in Oct. This is one of the first things I made. I found this piece of wood in the scrape pile at Home Depot and put it in my purse and took it home. If you look you can see where I altered the pattern by cutting off the back claw !!!
-
Haven't got a pic either, but it was a simple nativity scene. I started out on practising some alpabeth letters first.
Cherie I think your bears come out of a book by one of the Spielman family if I am not mistaken it is in "scroll saw pattern book"

I finally found my first cuts and took pics. I gotta laugh at them cause I really didn't know what wood to use so I grabbed a piece of 2x4 and cut these.
Love - I downloaded from some where maybe here
Sexy - I drew myself on the wood
Notice the knots?! Did I know how to choose the right wood or what?! ;D :o
Probably went through quite a few blades as I remember! ::)
I learned a lot since then, especially from this forum!

OK...here was my first project, 2/2011...yes I am a "newbie" :)
-
Wow cnlnc. With work like that I wouldn't call you a newbie. It's embarrassing to us real newbies. Very nice work. Wish I kept my first piece. My wife and I still laugh at it and wish we had it. It was an absolute disaster. Not a smooth line anywhere on it. Lol
-
my first scrollsaw project was on the cover creative woodworks & crafts December 1997 issue.didn't have a pic of it so i scanned it with my flat bed scanner.
was a bit dark so i had to lighten up a bit.i made it 1998 so its seen better days getting in rough shape now. just might have to make another in the future.
-
That was your FIRST project!!! Wow, impressive.
-
Mine is the same as HWP I did the love word (I think I got it from here as well) I don't have a pic of it because it is hanging up between pics of my wife and myself I painted it black it was done on 1/2 pine (still learning about the wood) I wanted it to look like the ones you would buy in the store Laugh, Love,Live, Hope, Faith those one I will see if I can get it away from the wife so I can take a picture of it.
-
yep i would say it was my first serious project.use to make small lawn ornaments before that didn't count them, before i had a scrollsaw use to cut them with a jig saw
-
well now you wanna count what we did with a jigsaw I'm an old pro lol
I have made evrything from lawnart to windchimes to family signs (you know the kind) XXXXXXXXXX family Est XXXX made to look old English style.
-
@yankeebum2...thank you for the kind words, I definetly give all the credit to this forum for all the support, info and advice it has given me. I am definetly hooked. ;D
-
Don't have a pic, either. My first project was a pair of skates cut from 2x6 with 1" pine blades. They were painted, and then I put nails where the holes for laces would be. I tied string around the nails and then knotted the string at the ends. We would hang them on our mailbox before Christmas.
They were such a hit that I probably made at least 75 pairs for friends, and sold others at craft shows.

my first project I cut from a hobby pack of wood from Walmart

Just looked at mine again. On the word love doesn't the e look like a pacman or something! ::) LOL!
-
My first project was a kangaroo. (feb.2009)
gave it away so I had to ask for a picture.
My daughter had to do a project for school and I took the hand jigsaw and made this.
wasn't really a project.
the next real project was the silhouette of my 3 daughters. also done with a hand saw.
after that I was so addicted that I bought a scroll saw. ;D :D ;D
-
really beautiful.
it's nice to keep the first work, what motivates one to move forward.
Congratulations to each of you to show your talent.
-
Hey Marcel.... I cannot even start to imagine how I would cut a delicate pattern with a Hand Held Jig Saw. Wow! You are great. Danny :+}
-
Darn! Thought when one got older I wouldn't remember what I had for breakfast, but can't remember first project about 10 years ago. These are very early. Notice the dust!
