Marshall's post on another topic got me thinking (I know, uh oh); who's got the smallest shop?
Before adding shelves, my shop was 8' by 10'. Thus the name 8 by 10 Woodworking.
Winner gets bragging rights!

Bill ... you need to SPECIFY if that is in 'working' condition or as mine is now in 'compacted' condition!
I have to share a one car garage with the car so mine is all on wheels and is packed away in a corner when not being actively used! <BG>

At home my shop is about 6'x14'. Although the table saw and jointer are outside in the shed.
At school, where I teach woodshop, I have something like 35'x35' with a 10'x10' storage room 10'x10' office and computer lab in one building and maybe 40'x80' (come to think of it I have never actually measured it) in the other building.

I think we should only count "working shops" but I think we need a judge now.
:)
Bill
-
Which room of the house?
-
8'X10' shed out back!
-
Okay, so I don't know how to do stuff like this. :D I'm too confused now. I'm getting too old, I think. 52 today.
I think Mainewoods and I are going to get along, however.

Mine is 10' x 12' with a table saw, scroll saw, drill press, paint station, router table and shelves.
-
I WIN I WIN I WIN !!!!!! Mine is only a 4'x5' yep you are reading it right it is a 4'x 5' I have a corner of the Garage the wife has the rest for the storage of all her junk so I win right? ;D :D
-
You got me beat Bill. Mine is 9X13 with scrollsaw, drill press, band saw, 13" planer, bench sander, router/table, and miter saw. So space is well used. Adding a spindle sander soon. JJ
-
my shop is 16,4' long and has 2 different wides
the first 7,2' is 8,2' wide the next 9,2' is 9,2' wide so thats 143,7 square feet
guess I'm not a winner ...... :o
table saw, band saw, drill press, bench grinder and a scroll saw of course.
this is one of the times that I'm happy that I didn't win!! ;D
-
Thought mine was small but you lead Chahci. Mine is 5' x 5,5'. So anybody going to beat Chachi on this one. All my tools are stored in their boxes under tables beds etc. I have my scroll saw and workmate set up and that's all there is room for. But at least I got a dry and warm place to work.

I defiantly wouldn't win this one. My shop is 800 sq ft with a loft 400 sq ft for storage. I have a 12 X 28 aluminum roof, concrete floor overhang out front. A 6ft main opening (Two 3ft doors) and a rear 3ft door. Four widows looking out on my property. Lots of trees and birds. AC / Heat, High Def TV with HD Cable. VCR/DVD, Dolby Digital Surround Sound, CD/Stereo, Computer w/printer, High Speed Internet (40 Mbps), Frig for beer. Oh and did I mention dust collection system and lots, and lots of tools. 8)

Just a reminder. Charlie (Charles Dearing) is able to see the forums but unable to post so he asked me to post this lol http://stevedgood.com/community/index.php?topic=313.0 (last pic on the page).

I'm getting too old, I think. 52 today.
Happy belated birthday Bill! I'm 46 as of today! Too funny!
"Workshop" also contains table saw, sliding compound miter saw, small drill press, workbench, shelving unit, chest freezer, christmas decoration storage, all while leaving enough open floor space for my scrollsaw on its stand and a kerosene heater.
-
If you only count open floor space, I could probably win but the shop building is 24x40 and you have to sidle sideways to get through.
And Bill P before you complain about being too old, when you were born I had tried college and was in the navy.
-
I can't tell what the dimensions are on Charlie's, but it looks like either he or Chachi won.
I'll never complain about the size of my shop, or my age, in this forum (I even held up my right hand).
Mainwood, happy birthday back at ya. That is funny, same b-day, same shop.
Lisa and I are going to be taking a picture of the shop for the site as soon as the weather cooperates.
Happy New Year everyone!
Bill

Hey you two!
Remember that at some point you...
"quit complaining about your age and start Bragging about it!"

My "shop" seems to keep growing. I have about 4ft x 6ft space in the garage but if you count what ends up on the kitchen table and my office I have greatly increased the size. I am cleaning the office and have taken a dozen items back into the garage !!!! Nothing like spreading the "hobby" cheer all over the house.
-
Looks like russ and mrsn are the big losers, I have a "Very Crowded" front 1/2 of an in-line two car garage - scroll saw, table saw, lathe, drill press, router w/stand, miter saw, wood storage on the wall and on wheels,, a workbench on each side, finishing table in the middle, shelving, tool cabinets and my tablesaw is set with the height of my window in garage so I can shoot the long pieces I cut right out the window :)

When it comes to this contest I will gladly lose, and smile. 8)
-
Yeah, You won't be hearing from me!
-
As with Russ, I am happy to loose the small shop contest. Although when I started I had my scroll saw in the corner of my husbands welding shop, and had basically room for my saw and stool. I am so glad I moved indoors.
-
I'm very grateful for my little shop. It's insulated, has a nice sound system for my tunes, has all the tools I want. I call it my Man Cave.
I'm blessed to have found a great hobby, and a wife who supports it and me, with understanding and love.

You all know I temporairily converted my jester "studio" to a scroll saw shop last fall. It is WONDERFUL and now permanent. I will still go out to the other shop to cut blanks and do the staining because I am such a slob. I am happy to run with the BIG DOGS with and inside studio 14x24 and a 24x24 outside shop. I would be happy to share ;D
-
Judy,
I'd be pleased to move in this spring. We can work out the details later. ;)
-
Lisa and I are packing now. We should be there by the 6th.
We don't eat much.

I wish I could share my shop it is 24' X 30' , but it's full I'm sorry . Had no idea that some of you had such small run-ways , I don't know what's worse small space or full up and can't hardly move around ...............
-
My little shop has my 30" Excalibur, my miter saw, table saw, planer, router, air compressor, belt/disk sander, shop vac, drill press, jointer/planer, joiner, over 60 clamps, sound system, heater, girly calendar, and more joy and happiness than can be described.
I'm willing to bet JJ's going to come over and count the clamps now. :D

Oh man, I'd thought I'd see some pictures of small shops. I also have a small shop, but very unorganized. I plan on reorganizing things in the next couple of weeks, but I need ideas.....and pics!
Happy New Year everyone. I am have a great time here reading the posts. Thanks for the ideas you all share. ;D
-
Scrollman,
I'm going to take new photos with the new saw, but in the meantime go to www.8by10woodworking.com. The home page has a pic of the shop.

mine is my scroll saw on the end of the bar
-
I like that one, excuse me bartender bring me another Bud to steady my hand, I'm having trouble threading this blade ;D ;D
-
I don't think it matters how much room we have in the work shop it is never enough, my work space is small but the wood storage area is large, wood is not easy to store

I agree 100%
-
i agree you never have enough space. an old timer told me once to figure what size building i
wanted, double it & in 5 years it will be to small. he was right as far as i'm concerned.
-
Line'em up Bill. Always adding clamps to my collection too but don't have that many. Guess I don't require as much glueing for my projects. JJ
-
A wise man once told me, "You can never have too many clamps." When I do the glue up for my Disney frame, I use 18 little clamps because the surface-to-surface area is just a bunch of little spots.
