I made a call a few minutes ago to someone who has a Dewalt scroll saw for sale. He said it's only been used 3 times and he wants 250$ for it. I have not seen it and it is about 75 miles from my house. I don't know if it is with the stand and light or not. ( I wouldn't need them as I already have a circular tube light, workbench and foot switch.
Advice: Should I purchase or not?
BTW, if I get it, it should be in the next few hours (hopefully).

I would think it is a good deal Karl if it has only been used that much. It is my favorite saw and I would jump on it if I were you and you were looking for a saw. I don't think you will regret it!
:) Let us know . . . .Sheila

Thanks Sheila. The problem is I don't "need" a scroll saw. The Craftsman I have works okay, but I thought I could take the next step up and enjoy scrolling more with a better saw. Another problem is if I get it, I need to make and sell some things to "pay" for the saw. Decisions, decisions.

Sell the Craftsman! :D

For what it's worth, I agree with Sheila!

Me too I agree with Sheila. You won't regret it.

If it is in truly great shape as purported jump on it. Sell the craftsman or keep it for doing demos at shows. You won't regret it if it is like new.

This year we got 2 Dewalts at school (I'm a shop teacher) They really are wonderful machines. As soon as my Hitachi dies, or I find a good deal, I'm upgrading.

I hope you're in you car as I type this, Karl! While it would be terrible to drive all that way to learn the seller has misrepresented the saw but that's a great deal if it is as described.

Hey Karl, If you have a Craftsman saw, You need a new saw! ::)
Get the DeWalt!

Former Craftsman Owner says, "Get the D&% DeWalt, QUICK!" or tell the group where it is!

Well a short while ago the fellow called back and it was too late to look at it tonight. :( So I'll take a look tomorrow evening. :) Needless to say I'm checking my finances and some extra work this weekend to swing this.
Stay tuned.

Hey Karl, you really need to swing this deal! You wont regret it!

Buy it, it is a steel and you are the receiver, all you have to do is check it out

I agree with everyone, buy it. You won't regret the upgrade. 8)

DO IT!!!! (I did several years ago - best decision I ever made).
-
You need to jump on it ASAP. Your craftsman was a great start but it is time to move up. You will be amazed at the difference.

Dewalt scroll saws seem to be impossible to get in the UK. I am thinking of upgrading and was wondering about Hegner, any thoughts?

I found one on Craigslist 2 weeks ago and called the guy and drove 1.5 hrs each way the same afternoon to get it. Used very little. Came with stand. Mint condition. $150.00!! I love it! Had a ryobi before this..So, my advise? GO NOW and get it!
-
If you can swing it, do it. When I upgraded, it made scrolling a lot more fun and enjoyable.

Okay, I'll be leaving in about 30 minutes to look at the saw. It's about an hour away (depending on traffic). I should post next in about 2-3 hours.
Stay tuned.

GOT IT!
Went by, looked at it, tried it - worked fine. Looks clean. The fella I bought it from was happier with the Harbor Freight model he also had.
Now I have the saw to match my stool! :D

Congratulations! Be sure to post a follow up after you've had the time to use it a little. :)

Alright Karl! Like Becky said, report back after you have worked with it a couple of days.
Don't forget, You now have the capacity to top feed. Give it a try, you'll like it!

I am really happy for you and I know you will love the saw. It is a great investment and will make scrolling so much fun for you! Congratulations! :D

I did not need a scroll saw either but as I watched Craigs List I saw one for sale with no price other than it was new in the box with a stand. Never used. No lowball offers accepted so I waited three weeks and it was still for sale so I offered the person 250 dollars (1/2 Price). I got it and it was brand new in the box from woodcraft with a new stand also from woodcraft. After cleaning all the oil off and setting it up I can not believe how nice it cuts compared to the Porter Cable I been learning on.
