Has anyone scrolled Aspen !/8 or 1/4 inch . Does it cut well and finish well? Thanks for any help.

I did. It was a little soft for my taste, but it sanded and finished nicely. It's the wood I used on the anniversary plaque at http://www.8by10woodworking.com/Plaques_And_Signs.html
I would recomend a slow speed because the blade can walk real easy when you turn a corner.
Good luck,
Bill

What other wood could it be compared to cutting? Never cut any Aspen. 8)

I would say it is almost like cutting poplar, but the color is much more even and typically quite light. Although I have seen some with yellowish streaks in it, for the most part is it clear and whitish. Similar in color to holly, although it is much cheaper and available at greater widths. The main difference between it and holly is that is is far less dense.
Overall I like it. I think it holds up to most scroll sawing well and gives a nice clean base for staining or finishing with a clear varnish. And you can't beat the price.

It's one of the few woods you can buy at Lowe's in thinner widths. It is soft and doesn't have a lot of visual grain and figure to it. Easy to work with. Definately slow down because the blade can get away from you pretty quick. It is generally very light in color but stains nicely.

I agee with Bill. It's a bit soft, but sands up nice and finishes well. I give it a thumbs up

I used Aspen for the white parts of this Intarsia Eagle. It cuts very well and is easy to shape.

On my next trip out I will try to pick up some and try it. Thanks for the info and I am sure Bob will appreciate it to. 8)
