Title: Just changed 'plywood' suppliers.....
Post by: GrayBeard on September 27, 2010, 06:51:07 pm
I tried Sloan's Woodshop for plywood for the first time and just received my order.
Faxed my order at 4:00 p.m. last Thursday the 24th. It was invoiced and shipped the same day.
Received the wood this afternoon.

Inspection revealed that the plywood is perfect in every way.
No flaws and cut perfectly square.

Slightly higher in price than Ocooch but shipping was less and a lot quicker.

Sloan's is my new PLYWOOD supplier!!!

I also have had good experiences with Sloans.  They are one of two outfits I trust enough to send cash.

My only compliant is the sizes they stock and they aren't very flexible in cutting the sizes I need.

Hey GrayBeard, I have been singing the praises of Sloans for years. In fact I have cards printed for my students with three web addresses That I recomend. One is Sloans, one is Mikes Workshop, and the other is Scrollsaw Workshop.

I have also been using them for a couple of years. I buy all my plywood from them. Excellent service, great products.  8)

Is there a difference in finnish birch and baltic birch?

Judy, Finnish birch has water proof glues and is used for outdoor projects. Baltic birch is the same wood, but not for outdoors.

The only problem with Sloan's is you can't order online, you can fax or call in your order. You usually speak to Rhonda who is an owner and is a pleasure to speak to.

Dan -

I guess I am old school, translation: old and computer challenged :), I like that you get to talk with someone.  Rhonda offers a lot of advice and I appreciate that.  I know what you mean though, ordering online is faster, and often I don't have the time to spend.

I agree with everyone Sloan's has great quality and fair prices.

Sloan's is fine.   I buy it in the 5'x5' sheets and cut the sizes I need.  Runs about 1$/sf at full retail, no special discount.  Because the cabinet makers use it for drawer bottoms a number of lumber yards carry it.  If you need special sizes the lumber yard or a cabinet maker just might cut you up some.

I've been buying from sloans for years. If I need anything for scrolling I check Sloans first, if they don't carry what I want then I check the web.
