I am going to try painting baltic birch plywood for the first time. Do I need to use a primer or can it just be painted. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I have always used Steves lemon oil finishing technique with it and this will be my first time painting. Thanks.

I find that it easier to paint with Acrylic craft paint if I give BB a coat of Seal coat (ie shellac). Diluted 50% with denatured alcohol. It helps seal the edges. I then sand at 220 or 320. Just a touch to get any fuzzies or raised grain.
If spraying with rattle can I just spray as it usually has a primer built it.

Good advice, Don,
I normally do not use a primer with the acrylic but, it certainly couldn't hurt to seal it first.
God Bless! Spirithorse
