Title: Albert Einstein
Post by: dgman on July 29, 2010, 12:40:25 am
Portrait cutting of Albert Einstein.Pattern by Steve Good. 1/8" Baltic Birch, Backer board is 1/8" red oak plywood stained red mahogany. Frame is 1/2" red Alder. I assembled it all together then soaked it in boiled linseed oil -mineral spirits mix. Then top coat with deft semi gloss spray lacquer.

Great portrait Dan.  What size did you make it?  I presume 8x10, but maybe not.  I like the red alder with the BLO finish.

It's a great picture.  I love your choices in wood and the framing sets off the beautiful cutting.  Great job!

Thanks all! I don't like using black for the backer board, So I always use a wood backer board. The size is 8-1/2" x 11". I used alder for the frame because thats what I had laying around. I used mostly flat blades, Olson 2/0R, FD UR1, and I used FD NS 2/0 spiral blades where flat blades wouldn't work.

That came out really great!  You make it look easy.  :)

I wonder what it would look like if we used other stuff for the backer board.  Like say that flooring that looks like rock or something.  I dunno... just thinking out loud.   ::)

This is my version of Albert.  I used quarter inch Oak and stacked cut 3 layers.  All came out real good.  Made many frames from Pine....  :+}

Both are very well done.  Thanks for sharing.  Sometimes seeing a pattern finished prompts some of us to go ahead and cut it then.  I know it does me.
