Title: DW788 tension rod problem

Seeking advice: I purchased my DW788 used about four or five years ago. In 2013, the motor was replaced. I have realized since that the label that says whether it is a 1 or 2 is no longer on it now, so I am not sure which it is. The problem I have is that while cutting, I lose tension, even though the rod lever remains where I initially set it, usually around 4 1/2 or 5. I removed the on/off switch cover, the rod lever, and the plate that covers the front end of the rod, and then rotated the rod counter-clockwise, as I have read to do for tension issues. However, the problem continues. The nearest shop (still an hour away) is backed up for a solid month, so I hoped to fix it on my own, if possible. So, far, I think I will not pursue being a scroll saw mechanic! But I would still like to complete (before Christmas) the Christmas gifts I am making, so I appreciate any help. Thank you in advance.

It's really not hard to make some of these adjustments.

Gwinnet Woodworkers on YouTube has a 4 part series on taking apart and putting back together this scroll saw.  You might take some time and review the videos.

If I remember correctly when I adjusted my tensioner I also flipped the plate over in the back as it was a bit concave.  When you get the saw apart be sure to grease where necessary.

I tried watching the videos on You Tube, but my internet connections isn't that speedy, so it took forever.  I contacted them directly and for a donation, they sent me a DVD with all 4 parts on it.  Much easier to watch.

I don't still have the contact info, but if you just Google them, it will come up.  They were great to work with.

Thank you, both Karl and Nancy. I will watch the recommended videos and see if I can fix the problem. Knowing which of the many videos available may be most helpful is beneficial. Thanks! ~Holly
