These are test cuts of small versions of Steve's Praying Hands for a customer order. They are 3.5" tall and cut in 1/4" red oak. The hands on the left are cut with a #5 new spiral (heavier lines). On the right, most cuts are FD-UR#9 except the pinky which is #5 new spiral. I may wind up turning the pattern to get the grain parallel to the fingers to minimize the chance of breakage.

Good job. I like the one on the right the best. Also, as you said, if the grain ran parallel to the fingers, it would be stronger, and I believe would improve the appearance. I also like oak for cutting. With the grain parallel to the fingers your eyes tend to look up thru the pattern, which helps convey the thoughts of praying hands.

Nicely done. I also like the one on the right better, however both are good. Thanks for sharing these with us.

Beautiful work...Here is one I did, added name to personalize it

I think the one on the left is nicer, but the grain is throwing the visual look if it off, however Ray they are both nice.

Both are very nice, but the vertical grain does give an edge to the one on the right in my opinion. They would be a good case study on using grain orientation to enhance a picture. Something I am not good at.

These are very nice

Nice work, Ray,
I also prefer the one on the right with the thinner veins and, as Woodchuck said,
I think running the grain with the fingers would enhance the appearance.
