Title: Segmented Bowl
Post by: Keefie on August 17, 2014, 04:25:28 am
It's not scrolling, but I thought you might like to see the latest project to come off my lathe.

The base is beech, the centre ring is Amerillo and Iroko, the top ring is "YGIAGAM" (Your Guess Is As Good As Mine) If anyone knows what the top ring is made from please let me know as it was an odd piece I found in a scrap bin and I liked the colours in it.

DW, the bowl is 8 1/4 inches diameter, it was supposed to be 8" dia but I must have got my measurements wrong somewhere  ::)

What finish is that you have used Keith, Ive used the super glue and linseed oil finish a few times with similar results but it kinda  gets the throat a bit.

Sam, beleive it or not, I sanded it down to 600grit then burnished it with some shavings. Then I gave it a coat of sanding sealer and burnished it again with shavings, then there is one coat of Liberon Black Bison paste wax and buffed it up. It gave it a great shine.
