Cut from 3/4 Pine ( box body ), 1/16 Poplar ( Box top and bottom ) and 1/16 Mahogany ( horse ), Bamboo ( hinge pins ). This is a relatively simple box to make and since the lid is pinned in place there is no danger of someone putting it on wrong or loosing it. The back of the box has a slight 3/16" 45 Degree chamfer to allow the lid to open. The lid has a 1/16 radius relief on the bottom back corner to allow the lid to open without interfering with the opening. This box was sealed with tung oil and then top coated with shellac.

Looking good, DW. It's hard to tell from the photo - is this box just 3/4" high (plus the thickness of top and bottom)? What are the outside dimensions?

The box is actually 1 3/4 thick. I glued up two 3/4 inch sections to make the body of the box. The lid and bottom are 1/8 inch thick. You could of course make the box just about any thickness you wished as long as it fits under the saw, at least as I made the box. So the box is 3 in wide x 5 in long x 1 3/4 in tall.
