Just picked up my entry into Rockler's "Adventures in Wood" contest. I did not win. However, I am honored to have an entry, since admission was juried by a local art school.
I have made an item similar to this before, but all oak. I like the purpleheart wordart contrasting with the red oak cross better than all one species of wood.
I understand the top three entries will make it into Wood Journal magazine.
Well...there is always next year!!

That came out great. I can see what you were talking about with the lettering being a bit fragile. I wonder though if you might consider cutting the lettering from something like BB Ply which would be considerably stronger than straight wood. All in all though I think you should have won. Thanks for sharing this with us. Better luck on the next one.

Yes it is so fragile that when I was stack cutting 2 of them I touched the "of" of the word of and part of it broke off, so I only had 1 left.
