Title: Bowl-cut wooden spoon
Post by: EIEIO on April 28, 2014, 10:04:15 am
Seems a little slow on the Forum just now, so here's a new design that was easy to make and turned out pretty good.

This is a wooden spoon that was cut like a scroll saw bowl. It is cut from 1" Birch hardwood from a 1"x2"x10" blank. The inside of the bowl is cut out, glued to the back of the bowl area, then trimmed down to 1/8" thick and sanded smooth.

The attached PDF shows the instructions and the basic shape, but these spoons are usually carved with a hatchet and knife and have more curvy lines and decorative touches, especially in the handle. So start with the basic pattern, but experiment with curves, shapes, decorations, etc.

The spoon shown has a bowl size of 2 tablespoons.

Here's a small variation on that bowl-cut spoon. I think this would be a tough cut using a knife and hatchet, but only a few minutes on the EX-21.

Cool idea buddy.  I tried to save the file and it tries to save as "index.php"  ????

Thanks Ray
I also got the "index.php" the first time I tried to save it
I closed the thread, re-opened it,
Went back to folder, clicked on it and it came out right the second time

In Chrome, when you click on the PDF it downloads and shows a rectangle at the bottom-left of the screen. If you click on that rectangle it will open in your Acrobat reader.
