Title: Wacom Intuos tablet
Post by: overfifty on March 26, 2014, 12:08:42 am
Against my better judgement I bought a tablet and am trying to develop a pattern with it. The tablet doesn't accept my choice of brushes, and rather than pinpointing a spot on the image I get a wide streak of white or black from the edge of the tablet to that point. I've chosen brush size with both the pen and the mouse but I can't get pinpoint accuracy with the brush. Any suggestions? Thank you, Barry.

For what you are trying to do I think you made a BooBoo in choosing a tablet!
I don't think the tablet has the computing power to do the jobs you are asking of it.
A full size laptop would have made a better choice....

I may have misunderstood your reference to "Tablet"!
I was thinking in terms of a "tablet" like a Samsung, iPad, etc.

Hi Graybeard. I've been using a laptop all along but was under the delusion I'd have better control on some aspects of pattern development w/tablet. From other discussions it appears the tablet and GIMP are incompatible and it's going back. Cheers, Barry.

Barry - I assume the tablet you're talking about is a Wacom drawing tablet, not a computer tablet like an iPad etc. - is that right?

I tried one of those Wacom's last year and wound up sending it back. It misbehaved somewhat (don't remember now) but the fault was more mine - I could not get used to moving the pen w/o touching the surface so it kept getting confused (or I did).

I do all my graphic editing on the mouse touchpad on my laptop - no room for a mouse on my desk.

Thanks all. I'm not sure what the conflict was but sometimes you just have to suck it up and admit defeat. Cheers, Barry.

sounds to me that the issue is probably a lack of memory
I did have some issues with my bamboo when using on the laptop (2gb)  similar to what you say Barry
When I upgraded to a desktop  (8gb) there was no problem at all.

When I got this two years ago I made sure it was on steroids as I didn't want this sort of thing to happen.  I think it's something between GIMP and the tablet as the tablet works with Paint, Sketchbook and Inkscape. I can't see it being a lack of memory but thank you.
