I posted a video on Youtube showing the front to back movement of my new DW788 to see what you think. Maybe I just need more practice. Let me know.

I read that post and I'm not sure I have the skill to make that kind of alteration on a brand new saw. My question is is the amount of movement you see in the video normal or is it excessive.

i don't own a dewalt but that looks like a lot of movment to me.

Hi Len. My wife bought me a DW788 for Xmas. It works perfectly, and looks nothing like that. There's definitely something not right there. Good luck, Barry.

Mine doesn't do that either. Wow, that thing is all over the place. I've not looked at mine from the side like that but I am sure I would feel it. If you don't think you can fix it, take/send it back. After all, it shouldn't depend on you to get a brand new saw to work properly.

There not sold in england but i have 2 machines 1 cheap chinese in dollars would be around 90-100 and the other a profesional one, none of them dance like that. If its new, i would ask for an exchange.

You just got this saw. if you start tinkering with it you will void the warranty. Take it back to HD. Quit messing around and get a different saw.
-
If the blade tension lever has been used to tighten the blade you should not get that movement. On a new saw, do what others have said - take it back and do not mess with trying to fix what should not be wrong in a new saw or risk voiding the warranty.
-
Thanks everyone! I'm on my way to HD now. I'll let you know when I get the new one.
-
FWIW, I think you did the right thing. You're going to be much happier with one that works properly. If you made that dragon on that jumpy saw, I congratulate you doubly. You'll think you jumped a couple of notches in the learning curve when you get a saw that works right.
I hope you don't have to wait too long.

That is normal just make sure your set screw are set right and that the blade is stright with the table.

Any front to back movement of the blade while running is unacceptable for fine work. Can also cause the wood to keep pulling up on you while sawing. I had this trouble with a DeWalt myself. I do not have that problem with my Hegner nor my Jet.

Has anyone gotten a DW788 recently that didn't have this problem? Is it just a matter of taking it back for another till you get a good one?

Got one at Xmas. Use it everyday and absolutely no issues as of yet. Cheers, Barry.

The HD just received a new supply of the DW788. I ordered one and it will be here next week. Cross your fingers for me please!

Mine are crossed!
