When Gluing a backer that either has Oil, Stain or Spray Paint applied.
What is a Glue that will Hold Good? Tried Alleens with clamps for hours
and was still able to pull apart.... Thanks.... Danny :+}
-
I have used E6000 with success.
-
E6000 is also my glue of choice. I also use it when I do my stained glass windows and it holds up wonderfully.
-
i don't want to cut in on Danny's post but i asked this question a long time ago with very few replies on it so i am interested in this glue as well.i don't recall this type of glue, is it a spray or come in a bottle if it come in both which would you say would work the best.
-
Thanks Friends. Guess I'll have to Google it. :+}
-
Never used it but here is the website. Sounds like it will hold anything and everything. :D

I have use the E-6000 with very good results. It comes in a tube, a little messy but holds great.
-
E-6000 can be found at walmart in marine section. My pkg. has shorelander logo on it.

One thing to remember, as scrollers we rarely need a lot of strength for our projects. Who is going to try and pull apart a backer board? I use Titebond11 and Fusion and they work great. If i know ahead of time I will need to glue, I will tape off the areas that will be painted so i can keep a raw surface when it is feasible.
-
I've had good success with Gorilla Wood Glue (PVA), but it dries white. Aileen has a clear PVA but I haven't tried it.
But Dunk makes a good point - strength is not critical for connecting a backer board.
-
Well I Thank All for your input. Actually for most all of my Portraits etc. I have been taking lots of time carefully putting little pieces of painters tape in lots of the areas where the backer color wouldn't be seen and then Spraying it with Paint. And then removing all them little pieces.
Well now I can feel more easy about spraying the Whole backer and carefully gluing the portrait to the backer.
Thanks again...............................Danny :+}

Danny if you are going to spray the Backer, remember that the inside of the Backer will be seen.
So if I was you I wood spray the back of the portrait then apply that to the Backer. 8) :-[

I use Titebond and apply it very carefully, to keep it from showing. I have not tried it, however you can get E6000 at Woodcraft. I tried Aileen's, with the same results as Danny, it didn't stick well enough.

Merlin....Could you say more about your post?
When I change the color of the backer wood I am planning on being able to
see the color behind all the frets in a portrait.
I used to just put a colored piece of Poster paper behind the portrait which is
probably good enough, but not lasting.
Thanks to All.... Danny :+}

Danny: hard to explain in text, but hear goes.
When you do a portrait cutting it's full of holes (yeh you knew that), then you paint a backer board.
You don't want to spray glue all over the painted backer, cause in the place's where there is cut out you wood sea the paint plus the glue. (that make sense).
So instead I spray the back of the portrait, that way you place the portrait on the backer that is painted the glue is no going to show on the backer only on the parts that are left on the portrait.
(Hell I think I may have over complicated that). ;D
The same goes for when place coloured paper behind the portrait.

Yepper I can see where your coming from. Sounds reasonable for sure.
Guess I have been lucky with being able to see Glue that would show.
Actually using Alleens Clear and their plastic top is pointed I am able to
just apply Tiny Drops every inch or so.
But I will give your way a go when the Weather gets Warmer. Thanks.... Danny :+}

I bought a tube of E6000 at Wally-World for less that $4 and gave it a go. Wifes Angel wing broke off. Followed directions and gave it a few hours curing and afterwards I gave it a few strong pulls n twists and held perfectly. Held Same with Painted wood to Bare Wood. I say this is a Great Product. It has a Pointed part where the glue come out which I Love for just applying small beads. Its is Clear and drys clear. Yep.... Very Good Glue.... Danny :+}
