Title: SG bowl
Post by: Martin on December 21, 2013, 07:05:15 pm
Not done much on the scroll saw lately so I cut this earlier this week to keep my hand in. I think this is one of those that everyone cuts as it's easy to cut and looks good too, IMO. External ply with outer veneers that are that thin I daren't sand it! Blathered it with mahogany stain and it's had another coat since this photo as it was very spotty close up.

Looks good. You might try the same thing with a piece of solid lumber rather than plywood. With the weave, you can make vertical cuts in the rings, and thin the rings to about any thickness to get a taller, narrower basket look.

Thanks for the tip, Ray, though it's probably as difficult for me to find solid wood in usable pieces around here as it was to find BB ply. I keep looking through the local Freecycle emails for old furniture, but the only way to get it home is cut it up and the people giving the furniture away don't like that. Understandable of course.

Martin.
