Title: Sinterklaas (dutch tradition)
Post by: Marcellarius on November 30, 2013, 07:16:46 am
next to Santa Clause we have a SInterklaas (St Nicolas)  in Holland.

Same big children friend, we celebrate his birthday on 5 December.
upcoming parties are here and we had a Sinterklaas evening with the youth group of our church.
guess who was Sinterklaas.....
Sinterklaas has helpers called black pete,
giving candy and presents if there are no naughty things in his book.....
even the leader where called and of course pranked... LOL
we had a ball

Hi Marcell, its nice to know about the customs people in other countries have at this time of year. Those are lovely pictures too. In Scotland we have Saint Andrew's day today. One question Marcell. Is your head the same shape as your HAT.??  ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;). It looks like you all had fun.

Yes, 5 December is traditional children's feast way back
oldest documents go back to 1427 in the Nicolas church in Utrecht where children did get something in their shoe.
still happens, not a stocking like Santa Claus does.... ;)

last 2-3 decades Santa Claus is giving presents more and more, but he does also gives presents to the older people, Sinterklaas mainly does give children presents.

lucky kids these days will get presents on both days :D

Thanks Marcel for that, I find it very interesting.  Yes kids are lucky getting 2 lot of gifts.  Still they always win anyway don't they.
