I am in the process of crafting custom Christmas Ornament boxes - where you send names to Steve and he returns them in an ornament pattern you selected. The box is made from 1/4 and the ornament fits inside on the middle board.
Area I am having problem with is the middle board, cutting it out and how the top board fits over the middle board. The pattern for the middle board shows two lines around the edge of the pattern and a dot in the upper left corner on the inside line. I have cut out the middle board on the outside line. However, when looking at the picture, the inside board is in about 1/8" all the way round when compared to size of bottom and top boards - - almost looks like the top board is going to fit down over/around the middle board but I don't see the pattern depicting this.
Any clues - suggestions will be appreciated.

Usually on the boxes, the top and bottom boards are the same size.
The middle board gets cut as two pieces, the inner piece where the ornament goes and outside ring (drill the dot & cut).
The outer ring piece will be glued to the top board and the inner piece is glued to the bottom.
When you're done gluing you'll have two parts, the top will fit over the bottom. Put the two together and sand flush.

You have just made my day and have taken away a bunch of anxiety! I really have been wanting to make a bunch of the ornaments and boxes because there are a lot of people in my community who will want them but I was stuck on the middle board.
How you explained it makes it perfectly clear. Now I can press on.
I appreciate the prompt reply also because until I got this cleared up, I couldn't move forward.
