Title: First complex project
Post by: zeroloc on November 03, 2013, 09:41:29 pm
Here is my very first complex project, it has around 190 cuts and took me around 15 hours to make. The letters are only 1/2 inch tall so it took me making some very tight turns. Keep in mind that Im an absolute beginner and have only been scrolling for 3 weeks now so im not the quickest worker but ive been learning a lot along the way! :-)

Excellently done for just 3 weeks experience.  Thanks for sharing this with us.  You have the important part down.. ..  Patience.  There is no speed race when doing these so taking your time is essential.

It does not matter how long it takes you to cut something because, slow and steady are a lot better than fast and mess it up.  Looks excellent.

Slow and steady. If you like what you're doing, why speed it up? Not my choice for an anniversary, but nicely done.

Have you tried spiral blades? They're easier to make a lot of direction changes, but harder to cut lines that are a little thicker than the blade kerf.

Thanks everyone for the advice! EIEIO, it wasn't my choice for an anniversary gift either but they are in to skulls and things of a macabre nature. I actually talked to them about what they wanted before coming up with the design and then showed them the design for their approval before going to wood. They were very happy with it. Well I will be putting up more pics this week, I'm working on Steve's patterns for Christmas ornaments! :-)

Fantastic work, and you have the good start of being part of this community. I tell you without this web site I would not have made half the stuff I made. Thanks for showing your work, looks very good for a beginner. Keep up the good work and show us your next project.

Thanks again for everyone who has replied, I feel like all of the wisdom that's been passed on here has helped me along tremendously and I feel like I'm taking to this well! I'm gonna post some pictures of some of the ornaments I've been making (Steve's designs obviously) so follow up with me on those too!
