good morning
im new to scroll saws bought a cheap harbor freight scroll saw just to see if i would like the hobby or not. it came with plain end blade adapters but when i try to use saw knocks like crazy. tried adjusting tension .any suggestions ? ( I know buy a good saw ) ::)

Sounds like the tension is still too loose. You should not be able to deflect the blade more than 1/8" to the side when pressed on.

I have one of those same cheap saw's. When you put the blade in. Make it flush with the adapter or slightly sticking out both ends. If it makes a knocking noise loosen tension until it stops. After I used the saw more it seemed to get better. Took awhile. I've been using mine for a year now. You can do it as it is running also. if you can catch it. LOL Took me awhile to figure it out.

If you will slide the adaptor down a little on the blade so the ends are showing, it will stop knocking. What is happening is the adaptors make the "blade longer" so that the upper are is hitting the upper frame. Had the same problem with mine, there is nothing wrong with your saw. On some blades you may have to bend the end over as it could stick out far enough to prevent the adaptor from slipping over the hook.
