Title: Fingerprint
Post by: Bearkat42 on October 23, 2013, 07:03:37 am
I cut these fingerprints using an enlarged photo of the actual print.  Extremely tedious work, very time consuming.  Not sure exactly how long it took me to cut them, but it was days for each...

It does look like very painstaking work.  You did a good job and I especially like the one on the left - that's thinking outside the box.

Thanks,
Jim

Great idea!!!  I am going to give this a go for a couple of the guys I work with - certified 10 print examiners.  Thanks for the idea, and thanks for sharing with us.

Afterthought - how large did you end up making the final pieces?  Any suggestions?

Al

Wow that's interesting. Do fingerprints have a lot of floaters?

Amazing! I nearly had a panic attack just thinking about making the pattern, never mind cutting it.

These prints measure approximately 8x10"...Used 1/4" plywood for the cut and then attached it to a 3/4" back...
They do have a few floaters which makes for a tedious cut but with a good quality 1/4" birch plywood it held together pretty well.  I do like the idea of the baby footprints, think it would make a great gift idea, but getting a good impression would be the key.  The problem would be with enlarging enough  to be able to make a thick enough cut, although I doubt that anyone would know the difference...But if you compare a single fingerprint enlarged to an 8x10, how large would a child's whole footprint need to be???

I saw a finger print pattern many many years ago and was going to do my finger print but I forgot all about it until now.  I think they are brilliant.  You did an amazing job, very well cut. Love it, love it, love it.

That's a really cool idea.  Talk about a unique gift - a person's own fingerprint (or the footprint idea mentioned above).  I guess the challenge would be in getting the person's fingerprint to start with.

LOL, all I can think is how bored you must have been to have made them. But then again they are pretty cool. A lot of patience must have been taken to make these. Definitely a one of a kind art work. Thanks for sharing.
