Title: 2013 Ornament exchange??
Post by: Marcellarius on October 06, 2013, 08:12:12 am
Well People,

just wondering....
I didn't see any movement on the annual Christmas exchange.
the other years we had exchanged names end of September.
Will there be any this year?

I sent Russ a message last week, but I haven't had a reply yet.  I figured he has always been the organizer.

Sorry I haven't gotten back with you Bill and Marcellarius. I have been super busy remodeling around my house. This is the first interest in the Ornament Exchange this year so I didn't think anyone cared, plus I have been too busy. I don't think there is enough time now.

sounds like a busy man Russ. I can imagine it didn't get the attention.
maybe many people did sat and waited for the first action?
how much work is it (in hours) maybe if one or two of us could help you with it?

but the other hand, like you said. if there is no interest, maybe skipping it is OK.

I was interested, but I was waiting to hear about it on the forum. With hindsight I should have got off my butt and asked earlier. As you say Russ it's getting a little late timewise to make stuff and get it sent in time for Christmas.
Russ, can I be the first to sign up for next year please  ;D ;D ;D

I joined the forum in January so have not heard of the exchange before. If it's just a matter of cutting and shipping, does it really take all that long?

I'd treasure ornaments from others around the world and I'd be happy to send some out - do you try to have them represent your own location or are they conventional Christmas themes, or something else?

it's not quite that simple Ray!
Russ usually take the names and address of the people who join the gift exchange he keeps it open for a couple of weeks so everyone gets a chance to sign up and then he emails us with the name and address of our exchange partner.its normally 1 item minimum that you can hang on your Christmas tree.but it's up to ones self if they want to send out more to that person.hope that helps explain it for you.

I had planned to participate this year and was watching the forum for info. I understand that Russ outs a lot of planning into this so if I have to wait until next year, so be it. Should have spoken up earlier >:(

why does it have to be for xmas? we could make a  scrollsawer day that way we can do it anytime we want and no specific subject and that way it would be great for the ones who don't celebrate xmas

How about St. Joseph's Feast Day (March 19) for Sawyer's Day? St. Joe was a carpenter and is the patron saint of woodworkers.

I think it's a nice idea for a ornament exchange somewhere in the year, but I do hope that we still keep doing the exchange with Christmas again next year.

I can understand Russ's situation and hope all he is doing works out Good for him.

I also have ALWAYS ENJOYED sending Ornaments to different FRIENDS each Christmas
and will MISS it for this year, but this won't stop me from sending to Special Friends.

I would say Since December seems to be out I would Happily participate in the New Year
sometime.  Danny  :+}

We could do Christmas in July.  Some of the shops and hotels decorate and the hotels have Christmas lunch menus in July here.  Do they do it in your parts of the world???????????

In the US we are pretty much July 4th in mid-summer, but I can see how a July Christmas would work down under.

Sorry guys, usually I get twenty plus e-mails asking about it starting around the first of September. This year nothing. I was so busy remodeling that is actually slipped my mind. My fear is there being enough time for the people outside the U.S.A. having enough time to send and receive theirs.

I don't have a problem if we have more than the Christmas Exchange each year and I know Steve doesn't either. If I don't have the time I can ask for volunteers to help. It's not hard just time consuming.

So Marg, Marcellarius and some of the others outside the U.S.A. do you think there will be enough time if we begin now?

Go to the top post in the "Coffee Shop" and read the instructions and follow them carefully.

That will get you into the list and then you can receive an ornament.
