Title: A Successfull Pattern I Made!
Post by: countryscroller on August 29, 2013, 09:35:02 pm
I guess this would be the place to put it, "Brag Forum." I took this pic today of Dylan and I because I wanted a new one and something new on my Facebook picture. I decided to try and make a pattern and it actually worked out for me. I used Coyote Stencil Shop to make it. The edges aren't smooth like when you use Inkscape, but I just use the lines really for reference, except for the eyes on the pattern. I really appreciate all the help you pattern makers on here give me, EIEIO, Mahendra, Old Crow, tdpainter, and Grampa. I think that is most of them, sorry if I left one out that makes patterns for me. I just decided to do something on my own for once and it will mean a lot when I get this cut and framed.

Looks just like you both, great job. I'm not sure if I would cut the head rest on Dylan's chair.

Dustin - I'd suggest you try to sketch in by hand, on your printed pattern, just where you want to cut. Things like hair and beards can get tricky. I'd also suggest you look closely at the eyes in the photo and try to capture the light reflections - they make a big difference. Dylan's are clear in the photo but yours are not. Neither came through in the pattern.

If you add reflected light, keep in mind that they should come from about the same location in all four eyes - don't put Dylan's to one side and yours to the opposite side.

Looking fwd to the finished result.

I'm no pattern maker either (yet) but I think you have done an awesome job of that pattern. I agree with Ray (EIEIO) that the eyes need a little work but otherwise it's an extreemly good effort.

Nice shot at going with a pattern - this one looks like it is going to be very intense cutting - a LOT of small cuts.   I agree with Ray, see if you can fill in some of the areas for a more continuous cut.  The eyes are a bit difficult to arrange, but make or break the pattern.

Press on and best of luck in the pattern making division.

Great first pattern, Dustin.

I wonder if Vector Magic might help with the next step? The trial version can't save or print, but you can make screen grabs of your pattern. Might be worth a look for converting some of the 'dotted' effect to full lines.

Martin.
