Title: Bookmarks
Post by: Dan26 on August 25, 2013, 12:31:11 pm
Here's some bookmarks I did for craft shows this year. They are 1/32" Baltic birch ply stacked 10 at a time. Thanks for looking.

I didn't know  Baltic birch came in 1/32". But then I am a relatively new scroller. Do you buy it on the internet?

Thanks everyone.

Pat, I order from Sloan's at http://www.sloanswoodshop.com/plywoods.htm (http://www.sloanswoodshop.com/plywoods.htm). His prices are good, quality is great, and customer service is outstanding.

Very nice. I also did not know you could get BB Ply in 1/32. I'll have to check your link.

I made some earlier this year using back-to-back iron-on oak veneer (0.050 thick when joined). The glue gives it a nice flexibility, but your BB Ply would likely be stronger if it is 3 ply.

What size are these?

Ray, I make them 1.5" x 5.75". I get 14 blanks from one 12" x 12" sheet.

I made bookmarks a couple of years ago and put them into Christmas cards, everyone loved them.  This year I'm making Christmas decorations to put into cards.  So going on what people said that received them yours should sell easy, they are great.

Nice work, I am in the process of making 105 for a cruise next week, mine are from  1/32" walnut.  Did you use any finish?  I'd hate to use something that would rub off in the book.

I just ordered (5) 1/32 x 12 x 24 Finland Ply from Sloan's. That much fits within the $40 shipping break point. I have high hopes.

Thanks Pete. I usually give them a quick dip in BLO/mineral spirits (50/50) but on these there is no finish. Once sanded they feel great to hold.

Now a question to you, where did you get the 1/32" walnut? Is it solid or ply? Thanks.

I went to Ocooch (however you spell it) hardwoods, they are only an hour from where I live, cut it while I waited.  Solid walnut.

Thank you so much for showing these. Also for the info on where to get the wood that thin. I always thought bookmarks out of wood were useless. Now I see that it can be done thin enough. I will have to try some of my own. Thanks for sharing.
