Methinks these blades have seen better days....
-
wow, I have a few like that. Only do to when I feed them in the bottom of a piece and miss the hole, it bends, but what did you do here? :)
-
wow....what were you not cutting...lol...
-
What the hell you bin cuttin to get the blades lookin like that.

That's a heck of a "skip tooth" blade! ;D
-
That is A LOT of heat and pressure!! Slow down a bit and take your time! Scroll saws were not meant to cut 1/4" steel plate.

Holy crap! I thought *I* probably used my blades too long but I am just a minor leaguer compared to you!
-
These blades were each used for six, yes six, cuts - each cut was approximately 1 1/2 inches long, and the cuts were made at a normal speed and pressure (at least until the last bit of the last cut).
I was cutting the sandpaper I was provided by Judy, and using a set of wood blocks as guides. The wood guides are still in good shape. The paper is 180 grit and used for the manufacture (in this case) of a sanding mop.
The first set of cuts went well until about the middle of the fifth cut, then I had to start pushing a bit, of course by then I was obviously losing some teeth (on the blade). The last cut required a goodly amount of pressure - but it was not until I was complete with the sixth cut and pulled the project out that I saw the results.
I will say the blades held up, and the toothless area is actually fairly sharp, thus making the pushing through possible.
It was an interesting cutting experience to say the least. I must also state these blades were pinned blades at one time and I have no idea as to their age.
I am guessing the comments will continue - but now you know some more of the saga.
Stay well and have a decent day.

:D Now I AM glad I passed it on to you :D I wouldn't stand a chance with my spirals. How about hacksaw blades???
-
Hi Judy,
I think even hacksaw blades would suffer greatly trying to cut sandpaper, and yup - the spiral blades would really have a tough day at it.
Oh well, I guess we all live and learn, some of us more than others :D .

What about running it through a band saw at a slow pace with pretty good aggressive blade?
-
Just curious, what size blades are those?
I figured sandpaper would be tough on blades but that is some *spectacular* wear!
-
Morning folks,
I again tend to believe even a band saw at low speed is going to suffer when cutting sandpaper, after all the purpose of the sandpaper is to remove material. I personally would rather use up a few scroll saw blades as opposed to even one blade for my band saw.
I am not sure of the size of the blades used for this job, I know they are the largest ones I have in my shop. If someone is really curious, I can measure them, but I would tend to believe they are in the size 9 area.
Hope your day goes well.
Al
