that I can do in upper and lower case where the g's and y's and j's and such in lower case doesn't go below the bottom line. Is there such a thing?

Sorry Janet, in all my years in and around 'printing' I cannot remember ever seeing such a font.
All lowercase letters as you describe have the 'descendors' that go below the baseline.
There may be some new custom font that I do not know about but not to my knowledge.
