Title: What to do?
Post by: tdub4ever on July 19, 2013, 12:49:41 pm
Good afternoon, I'm attempting to do this One Direction pattern (by Mahendra) since they are in concert tonight in KC, MO. dilemma is this, in the second pic where I have the washer is a floater. How should I connect it so it looks good or should I leave it seperate and just glue it on the backer? I have penciled in some line but I don't think it looks good. Any help will be much appreciated!

HI
I would just put a small brigde to the right of the washer and on in the top left corner

Depending on the pattern and  how it would look without the floater, I just don't cut it. That what I call artist change, freedom of the press. And I have glued to the backer. Let your eye tell you what to do. Besides no one will ever see the pattern to compare the cuts. So far you are doing a great job on cutting, would like to see the finished work.

Me I wood make a bridge at the shoulder (I think u have penciled one in) and another to the left of the washer in that narrow gap towards the top.

I appreciate the ideas. I put a couple bridges in. Just finished cutting it. This is my first portriat and first time using a spiral. I used a (couple) FD-NS #1.

Here's what I'd do (in red for the bridge) if you don't want to just glue the floater back on. Usually where 2 line intersect, your eye can't tell that a bridge was added.

just like Raymond, my ideas in red.
I only would two and the one at the top almost flows naturally in the line.
give them a little curve.

You have done an excellent job on your first portrait :)looks neat and crisp from what I can see.
For the floater part you already have suggestions and adding one more to it would not be okay on my part :)
Keep practicing that is the key word and in no time you will be able to modify the floaters with a small turn, here and there. ;)
Thanks
Mahendra
