Title: BLO keychain
Post by: woodcutter on June 10, 2013, 11:12:59 pm
I made a key chain and soaked it in BLO for about 10 minutes.
then padded it dry and hung it on a wire to dry for a few days.
How many days do you wait before you can spray it with polyurethane.

Hey Jim, if you used full strength BLO, I would wait seven days. If you used the BLO/mineral spirits mix, it should be dry in 24 to 48 hours depending on humidity.
I mix the boiled linseed oil and mineral spirits at 50/50.

Yes I used the BLO at 50/50 .
Also how long will this mixture keep in a glass container.
More than a year?

Hey Jim, as I use up the oil mix I replenish it so I'm not sure how long it will last, but I have had the oil mix in the jar for several years now. As long as you keep the jar tightly closed, it should last a long time.
