Title: Wish me luck!
Post by: dgman on April 26, 2013, 11:39:50 pm
Saturday is my first show of the year. It is at the Ventura County Blues Festival at Moorpark college, in Moorpark Ca. It's just five minutes from my home! Lots of great music by the likes of Johnny Rivers and Savoy Brown. The promoters expect four thousand people! I will be sharing the booth with my buddy who makes wooden ties.
My biggest concern is people are coming to hear good music, not buy crafts, but there will be lots of time between the acts so folks will be wandering around. Also we will be set up next to the food vendors, so there should be lots of action.
Wish me luck!

Hope you have a very successful day Dan and sell all your stock. At least you are close enough to make a quick trip home for some more. Have a great day. ;) ;)

Lots of luck. Did you try making any of those "musical" wooden spoons? They might sell well at that show.

Blues fans tend to have a little more expendable income than Rock fans so you may do well....

Hope the weather is bright & cheerful to put everyone in a good mood.

Hope you make so much you have to weigh your money instead of counting it. In any case you will be listening to good music.

Good luck Dan (but I've seen the quality of your work so it should sell itself)

Break a blade Dan!  (I am hoping that's the equivalent of the show biz quote break a leg)

Hope it went well for you. I hope to have my first sale sometime. I did make some nice Christmas stuff for family. They have friends who are now requesting things made for them. Nice when a hobby can make you a bit of money on top of the satisfaction of making something nice.

No, I have just been busy with other things. It was just an ok day. Great music, the weather was beautiful, but as I feared, folks came to hear good music, not buy crafts. I did about $400, and my buddy didn't sell a thing.
Most of my sales were paid by credit card. I am using the Square reader on my iPad. I have a separate WiFi hot spot. For those of you planning to do shows, I highly recommend it. The reader is free. It can be used on any smart phone or tablet. There are no monthly fees, just 2.75% per transaction. They automatically deposit it into your bank account. It's great!
I was also approached to do another show in June which I am considering. Lots of compliments and oohs and aaas, but not a lot sales. I hope Tommy did better!

Not bad for a show close to home.

congrats Dan,
$ 400 sounds pretty good to me for one day, right?

Well done Dan, $400 isn't bad for a days sales.  I looked into that "Square card reader" but unfortunately it's not for use in the U.K.

Pretty good result for the day Dan. Good for you. At least you wouldn't have a heavy fuel bill digging into your profits. Hope you didn't spend it all on Blues CDs. ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;).

$400 is way better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick  ;D
My son and I are just getting into the reader for our phones.

Doesn't sound like a bad start Dan.  I am sure you had a good showing because there aren't many better than you.  I use the square reader for my Handgun safety classes also.  Works like a charm for me.

Thanks everyone! I know I would of done better if this was a craft show where people are coming to buy crafts, so I guess I need to concentrate on the right type of shows.
