Title: Hi from Malta
Post by: thealley on April 16, 2013, 05:54:32 pm
Hi all,

Did some fretworking when I was at school, but unfortunately my creations that included an Eiffel Tower and a windmill didn't last that long probably due to not giving the wood (3 ply) the required finishing.

Anyway, I've recently decided that I should regain some knowledge. I discovered that it isn't even called "fretwork" anymore, but rather scroll-sawing... am I right? I used to do all with the fretsaw, and I'm seeing that nowadays it's done with a scroll-saw! :)

I think I need to read a lot before beginning my works again since it seems I'm quite behind!!  8)

Cheers!!

Welcome to the forum! I'm Dan from Southern California.
Fretwork is a technique done with a fret saw or a scroll saw. There are many types of projects that can be done with a scroll saw such as fretwork, Intarsia, jigsaw puzzles, marquetry, inlay and even bowls and boxes. So you can call it fretwork if you like!
Start reading here and you should be able to catch up real fast. So, come on in and join the fun!

Hi, welcome to the forum. I'm from California.  I spent a few days at Malta, when I was in the Navy.  Our ship conducted gunnery exercises. there. Loved it.
