Title: cottonwood
Post by: thumbs on March 28, 2013, 07:22:11 pm
Just wondering if anyone has ever used any cottonwood? I have a chance to pick up some real cheap (free) but I don't know if I can use it--Richard

I don't know much about other than its messy and flys all that fuzz every where, and they say its not good to burn in fireplace. Might try it see how it turns out, if nothing else nothing lost but time and a couple blades.

As I recall it is extremely SOFT and I would be concerned about things holding together.

Cottonwood is a true poplar (I looked it up).  I have used it to make toys.  I also got mine free from a local indoor shutter manufacturer.  I found it to machine just like poplar but did give off a strange odor while cutting.

Well, the price seems right!
If it were me, I'd take it (or some of it anyway) and give it a whorl. But then again, I'm one of those people that will try anything twice.  :D
