Title: Owl
Post by: Dan26 on March 02, 2013, 11:01:10 pm
This one is cut from a not-so-good piece of cherry. There was some good sized pieces of insect damage on the back but I thought I'd give it a try. I'm not thrilled with it. It's about 15" x 8" and took about 3 hours. I went against my norm and used FD#3 spirals. It saved a little time cutting but I did spend a little more time cleaning the fuzzies. Finished with one coat of BLO followed by four coats of satin poly.

I ordered the pattern with some wood from Sloan's. Problem is...I was in such a hurry to cut the pattern that I didn't make a copy. Oh well, not the first dumb thing I've done.

I like the wood and the edge treatment you gave it, and nicely cut too.

I like it Dan. The defects in the wood add character to the piece!
One of my rules is to make two copies of the pattern before I cut it. One to have later, and one to have in case I make a mistake.

that is beautiful, I like your choice of wood too.
Whenever I get a pattern the first thing I do is scan it to my hard drive and also save a copy to a memory stick, then I print out any copies I need but I'll always have the back up.

A very nice cutting Dan, and I agree with the "defects" in the wood adding character to the work.  I have cut pieces out of Cedar with all the holes - really different and I have had some nice comments.  Keep it up with the "insect" cherry, the look is great, and yeah - thanks for sharing this beauty with us.

I know the feeling that things don't go well, but I looked at it and I think it's amazing!
I really love the pattern and think the wood is great!
