Nicely done.  You going to use butcher block oil to seal it?

Title: Re: type of wood used on cutting board
Post by: woodtinkergary on January 23, 2013, 07:53:09 pm
I forgot to mention it but the wood i used is Abachi wood from africa, they use in saunas and for the benches in them and fishing lures and wooden blinds and etc. The wood is splinterless and very tight grain, will not take stain very well at all. I even made an end table from it using the Kreg Jig system. How did I get some, Well I was doing plumbing for a contractor about 1 year ago and the General on the job was throwing out the scrap pieces , so I grabbed a couple of boxes of short pieces , before he threw it all away. It was used for the trim work around the windows and doors, the place was a credit union, new construction, the inside was decorated with building supplies from around the world, trim, flooring, carpet, tile, roofing, lighting . As you may already be thinking this was an exspensive building project, being put up in a town of only 6000 poeple. Go figure that !!!  It was a great find for me and have enjoyed working with the wood very much. When you sand it it comes out like glass when usung only180 grit .

Very nice cutting board and it sounds like the Abachi wood can be used for a large variety of projects.

I think I remember one of those in my mothers hand, it was used for disciplinary purposes in times of need.  ;)
