Title: Uploading a picture that was too big for the site.
Post by: EIEIO on January 20, 2013, 04:07:05 pm
This was cropped from a full sized 1.5MB jpg picture to get below 128kB.

Sugar Grove Bald Eagle - this guy and his mate have taken up residence in our neighborhood.
Title: Reducing file size for an upload.

I opened this file in GIMP2 (from a Nikon DSLR - 3008x2000 pixel), then did a Save As (new file name) and set the save quality to 4%. That got it down from 1.5MB to 119kB and could upload. But the quality is poor when you click on it.
Title: Using MS Office Picture Manager Compress to Web Page size

Same 1.54MB picture, loaded into MS Office Picture Manager, compressed to Web Page size, then Save As with a new name. I think this looks better than the GIMP Result.
