After reading that I remembered being told that all the fixtures, pews, choir stalls at our church were stained with a Coffee mixture. Everything was pine when it was built 122 years ago.  The fixtures still have that rich dark brown color. I think it was finished with varnish.

Has anyone ever used walnut oil?

Hi King, I use walnut oil with some regularity.  It is a nice finish but a little pricey.  I generally use Danish oil but sometimes, mostly on food related items, I go back to walnut.
