Title: Text to pattern
Post by: jscott2 on November 29, 2012, 10:20:31 pm
I've been trying to make a good cutting pattern from this image.  The final cutting is to be about 5" from the left of the "Q" to the right side of the "S".  I've tried every way I can think of to get nice sharp lines to follow - Gimp and Inkscape - but the lines are always fuzzy and grey, especially for the word "university".

I'd really appreciate it is someone could make a pattern for me.  Thanks.

Then I'd like some pointers on how to turn something like this image into a good pattern for cutting, so I can do the next one myself.

Thanks,
Jim

OC, I don't live in Kingston, I'm in Montreal but I do have a grand-niece by marriage who is in her first year.  I like your pattern but I'd like it something like Judy did, the letters outlined in a black line.  The small letters are very difficult to cut without a good line to follow.

Judy, your pattern was more what I was looking for in that the letters were lighter color and outlined with a sharp black line but I wanted the result to be the same as the image posted - it's taken from the University logo.  My idea was to cut the letters out so they were removed from the block, not the way you did it.

Thanks to both of you for your efforts, I really do appreciate them.  I can't get a sharp line to outline the letters - tried Gimp and Inkscape.

OC, that's exactly what I wanted.  Thanks for your pattern.

While I was puttering around the house today, the answer came to me.  It's a simple as using Inkscape's Trace Bitmap before changing the interior colour to a light grey.  For some reason I always did the trace after.

Thanks to you and Judy for your help.
