Title: Is This a First?
Post by: bubbaloo158 on November 20, 2012, 08:00:48 pm
Hi all...

Before I begin I would just like to let you all know that it is ok to laugh... I've gotten used to it... my better half is still on the floor with tears in her eyes and a sore belly from laughing so hard at me.

This happened the other night.  I had just finished a Christmas project and took it up to get the little woman's approval.  She loved it.  I then asked her what kind of finish she wanted - gloss, semi gloss or matte.  She wanted gloss.

I took it back to the shop and sprayed on the first coat of lacquer.  The stuff I use dries in a half hour so I left the shop to watch some TV with the wife..  About an hour later during a commercial I rushed back to the shop to give it a second coat and then rushed back to the TV.  Another hour after that I went back in for the final coat.  This is where the laughter begins.  Go ahead... I can take it.   I noticed that the piece wasn't shinning. I touched the piece to see if it was dry.  The piece stuck to my finger.  I am not making this  up.  In my rush, instead of spraying the second coat with lacquer, I sprayed it with glue.

I was lucky enough to able to save the project with some mineral spirits.  But she's still laughing.

Been there done that. Unfortunately several times I might add. The first time was a laugh, the second and third time not so funny. >:( >:(

That is OK, I once tried to glue a pattern on plywood with spray shellac.
That don't work too well either.

If it makes you feel any better, I did the same thing with break fluid spray.  I wondered why it didn't dry and had  a funny smell. and then I looked at the can, and it was a can of spray break fluid! Keith though it was a hoot! :)

You are not alone, my friend. You are not alone . . . .

Never done that, but once I picked up the wrong can, WD-40 instead of brake cleaner.  I sprayed my brakes, put the wheels back on, went for a test drive and couldn't stop...   If nothing else, the brakes didn't squeal anymore....

I can't tell you how many times I have done that!  Now I keep my spray glue on another shelf and mark the can with masking tape.
